Charges for Plane Base.
DECISION to levy a minimum charge of three guineas a flight for the use of the garage, planks and land owned by the Auckland Automobile Association at Hukatere, Ninety Mile Beach, by trans-Tasman air pilots was decided upon at a meeting of the council of the association. A letter was received from Mr J. 11. Butcher, a member of the council, who left recently for a trip abroad, stating that, in his opinion, Tasman flights had passed the experimental stage and had become commercial enterprises. He considered a charge should be made for the use of the association’s property which had been acquired at considerable expense. Several members said that considerable profit resulted from flights with mail, and held that it was reasonable to levy a charge for the use of the association’s property.
