Gatherings Held in Town and Country. STORES SYNDICATE'S DANCE. The Canterbury Automobile Association’s rooms were the scene of an enjoyable evening recently, when the first annual social of the United Stores Syndicate was held. The committee responsible for the success of the secial comprised: Miss E. R. M’Calium, Messrs C. J. Forbes, H. Leigh. R. Wyiie, C: J. Chapman, G. Pierce, with Mr A. Brown as chairman and Miss 11. lay lor and Mr E. 11. Down as honorary secretaries. Fred Smith's orchestra supplied the music for the dancing and Messrs G. Brown and G. Fierce were M.C.’s. Extras weie supplied by Mr Salkeld. During the evening musical items were contributed by Mesdames Filer and Salkeld, Misses S. Down and Eunice Penhalluriack and Messrs J. Filer. Sealey and Sands. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs J Pierce and Mr G. Pierce and a luckv spot dance was wen by Miss D. Reid and Mr W. Harrison. Among those present were: Mesdames G. Struihers, A. Brown, G. Brown. Port and Miss Ethel Port on behalf of the Presbyterian Church and Sunday School in honour of Miss Lilian Millar, who is to be married shortly, was spent in the Prebbieton Parish Hall recently, the guest of honour being the recipient of many useful gifts for her future home. The time passed pleasantly with games and compel itiotis, the competitions being won by Mrs W Pilet, Misses Lilian Millar and Louie Sheriff, Mr P. Basher and Master Albert Thomson. During the evening Mr W. Harding presented Miss Millar with a set of carvers from the members of the Ladies’ Guild and the Bible Class in appreciation cf her service to both organisations. An enjoyable social evening .was held in the Sumner Association Football Club's room recently, the guest of hou our being Mr Maurice Peterson, the well-known Soccer plaver, who has been transferred to Central Otago. In presenting Mr Peterson with a casket of cigars on behalf of the club mem bers, Mr Cook spoke of the excellent work he had done for the club both On and off the field. Musical items were contributed by Mr J. Browne and Mr Henley. Party at Belfast. A pleasant evening was spent recently at the residence of Mr and Mrs R. W. Arnold, Factory Road, Belfast, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their eldest son, Leonard. Dancing and games were enjoyed, and a competition was won by Mr F. Scott and Miss L. Evans. A lucky spot dfcnce was won by Mr R. Wright and Miss D. Vincent. The music was supplied by Mr F. Cummings. At supper the usual toasts were honoured, and Mr Arnold presented his son with a key. M’Duff, at the Albion Hotel, in honour of the birthday of their daughter, Eunice. The lounge a nr’ dining room were tastefully decorated with pink and golden chrysantnemums.
