NAVY LEAGUE.
Canterbury Branch Has Successful Year. The Canterbury branch of the Navy League’s annual report, to be presented to the annual meeting to-night, shows that the branch had another successful year. The question of unfair competition with British shipping by subsidised lines had been discussed, and the opinion of the General Committee had been that combined action should be taken by the various portions of the Empire, states the report. The membership of the branch, at the end of December last, was 472 adults and 15S juniors. There were also 250 secondary school members. The Navy League sea cadets were doing good work. Weekly drills, camps of instruction and rifte shooting competitions had all been well attended. It was hoped to obtain two service whaleboats for the Corps shortly. The balance-sheet showed an excess of assets over liabilities of £9Ol is 9d. The annual report of the Women's Auxiliary Committee stated that work had progressed steadily throughout the year. Dances and entertainments had bven given for ships visiting Lyttelton, and had been well-attended. Laurel wreaths had been placed in front of the Cathedral on Trafalgar Day.
