FOUGHT AS TROOPER.
British M.P. May Visit New Zealand. (Special to the ‘'Star."). MELBOURNE, April 5. Fighting as a trooper in the Dragoons at Ypres, and later as a captain in the Grenadier Guards on the same front. Captain R. G. Briscoe. Conservative member in the British House o: Commons for Cambridgeshire. who reached Melbourne to-dav in the Strathaird, has packed plenty of excitement into his career. After having obtained his commission. he was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in the field. He has come to Melbourne on a business visit to the Australian hardware firm of Briscoe and Company. Although he is fond of every outdoor sport, his hobby is working tapestry. Captain Briscoe entered politics in 1923 and has been successful at every subsequent election. On his return from Australia, and possibly after a visit to New Zealand, he will stay m India to study conditions first hand before taking part in the debate on the Indian White Paper in the House of Commons. Captain Briscoe said to-day that the young members in the British Parliament had broadened the general outlook of all parties.
