RUGBY FOOTBALL.
Early Challenge for the Ranfurly Shield. CANTERBURY UNION. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met last evening. those present being Messrs A. E. M’Phail (chairman), E. V. Phillips, H. 11. Davis, E. M. Todd, A. Duggan. W. A. Britten. W. Maxwell, W. C. Dailey. R. R. Masters, V. L. Jensen and D. I. Macdonald and Dr W. S. Seed. A challenge for the Ranfurly Shield was received from South Canterbury. The Malvern and North Canterbury Sub-Unions entered challenges for the . Delargey Shield, at present held by Hurunui. Permission was granted for the following friendly games next Saturday:— Albion v. Christchurch. Lancaster Park oval; Varsity v. Athletic, Lancaster Park, south ground: Merivale v. Rakaia, at the Showgrounds: Sydenham v. Sunnyside, at Sunnyside; Old Collegians v. Ashburton Old Boys; Old Boys were given permission to travel to Darfleld. The following were appointed delegates to the New Zealand Rugby Union Conference:—Messrs G. H. Mason, T. A. Fletcher (Wellington) and D I. Macdonald. Admission of Unemployed. After a long discussion in committee it was decided to admit to matches at Lancaster Park unemployed for a charge of 3d on production of their unemployment books. That arrangement, which will apply only to club games, was deemed to be. more equitable and spread the privilege over a much wider number of unemployed and do away with the inequalities of the system of distributing a limited number of free passes. The admission of unemployed to representative matches will be considered later. Accountants’ Association. The annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zetland Accountants and Auditors’ As?g -iniion was held at Christchurch yesterday. Mr A. G. Cannons presiding. Nominations of officers were made as follow-:—Vice-president, Mr F. H. Labatt: members of council, Messrs A. W. Ba«=cand, A. G. Cannons. C. H. Christie. J. Hutchins, W. M. Tyers and M. W. Woodfield. Reference was made to the effect of the recent legislation which entitled members, under the procedure provided in the Companies Act, 1933, to become auditors under the Act. In view of the reputation gained by the association during the past thirty-four years and of its recognised value to members, it was decided to forward a recommendation to the annual meeting that every effort should be made to keep the association in existence. The registrar advised that the thirty-fourth annual meeting of the association would be held in Auckland on April 26.
