Exhaust fumes, too, are notoriously dangerous, but many of us have occasionally pottered about the garage for a minute or so after starting the engine without opening the doors sufficiently wide to eliminate all possibility of the gases giving us a headache, if nothing worse. Experienced mechanics occasionally make this mistake, and have even died as a result ol their carelessness.
