MEMBERSHIP DRIVE.
To Encourage New Zealand Industries. A meeting: of the executive of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association women’s auxiliary branch was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs A. C. Fricker, vice-president, was in the chair in the unavoidable absence of the president. Mrs W. Machin. Mrs Fricker welcomed new members on the committee, Mesdames J. It. Hayward, W. E. Barker and J. W. Thomas. The secretary. Miss F. L. Cooper, gave a comprehensive report of work cPone since the last meeting. Arrangements were made for visits to factories. It was decided to have a membership drive and that each member of the committee should do her utmost' to obtain new members. It was left in the hands of the president, the two vice-presidents and the secretary to compile a schedule for the competitive section (needlework, cookery, arts and crafts, Jams and preserves, school cookery, etc.) and to submit same at the next meeting of the executive. The secretary was asked to send letters of appreciation and thanks to retiring members of the executive, Mesdames A. Alleway, A. Millington and J. Wood. Members undertook to make it known to any women’s organisations with which they came in contact that the secretary would welcome the opportunity of being allowed to speak to women’s organisations in town and country on New Zealand industries. A donation of £l is was received from Messrs Hayward Bros and Co., together with samples, and It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr J. F„ Hayward thanking him for his generosity, and the interest he had shown in the work of the auxiliary.
