PRESBYTERY MEETS.

Welcome Extended to Rev G. H. M’Neur. The Rev G. H. M’Neur, the first Presbyterian missionary to China, was welcomed at a meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery this morning, by the Moderator, Mr W. H. Rose. Mr M’Neur said that, while he was Officially on furlough, he was working here to create interest in missions. If the mission work in China was to be carried on by the next generation, it was essential that “ mission-mind-edness ” should be created among the young people. The responsibility for this lay with the churches, Bibleclasses, Sunday schools, and the parents of the young people. Mr M’Neur referred to the benefit of the Easter camps for Bible-class members in this respect. Presbytery Business. The following commissions of elders were received and sustained—SumnerRedcliffs, Mr A. J. M’Eldownev; South-bridge-Dunsandel. Mr J. Aldridge; St Andrews (Christchurch), Messrs W. A. Moir and G. Whitelaw; Hanmer Springs, Rev C. Sedgwick; Rangiora, Mr R. J. Corbitt; Cheviot, Mr M. Jackson; St David’s (Sydenham), Mr J. Ford; Motunau, Mr J. A. Preston; Sefton, Mr R. Taylor; Knox (Christchurch), Messrs H. P. Donald and G. M. Pilkington; Addington, Mr A. Simmonds. The Moderator, the Rev J. A. Allan, and the Rev A. C. Watson and Mr A J M’Eldowney were appointed a committee to consider a request that the Presbytery should appoint delegates to the Anti-War Council, which is being formed in Christchurch. A letter was received from Mr lan Fraser, stating that he had received a cablegram from Dr James Moffatt, stating that he would be visiting Mew Zealand in November. Dr Moffatt is an authority on the Bible, and his Scriptural translations are well known to scholars. It is hoped to make arrangements for Dr Moffatt to visit Christchurch. The Rev J. A. M’Call reported on a visitation to the Leeston Church.
