A GOOD RECORD.
Work in the Ashburton Hospital District. The improvement that has taken place during the past few months was referred to by the chairman of the Ashburton Hospital Board, Mr W. G. Gallagher, in his annual report at yesterday’s meeting of the Hospital Board. “ One recollection of the depression days which will remain with me,” stated Mr Gallagher, “is the way in which the various sections of the community have worked together for the general alleviation of distress, and the record of the past year is one of which the Ashburton district may well be proud.” He added that the spontaneous response to the appeal made at the beginning of last winter was a wonderful testimony to the goodness of the people of the district. Together with its own purchases of meat and produce, the donations received enabled a weekly distribution to be made to 180 families, and from the many expresI sions of appreciation he had received i he knew that the effort was well worth while.
