NEWS FROM THE PORT.

Extra Berth Accommodation for Yachts. Owing to the increasing number of yachts and motor launches at Lyttelton, the moorings provided at West Lyttelton have proved insufficient to accommodate the fleet and for some time there has been a waiting list for berths. Recently the Yacht Clubs requested that extra berths be provided and the Harbour Board decided to carry out alterations in the lay out of the present moorings to increase the berths from 54 to 82. A start was made yesterday morning to lift some of the piles and to drive others in accordance with the new plan. 'The new charges were to have been from £1 to £5 per annum, but as a result of protests by the Yacht Clubs and Yachting Association, the charges have been reduced as follows: Yachts or motor-boats 25ft £1 ss, 30ft £1 15s, 35ft £2, 45ft £2 10s. The fiftytwo berths gave the Lyttelton Harbour Board £73 10s in revenue and under the new arrangements the board will receive £B9 10s. The Harbour-master (Captain J. Crawford) has arranged to shift yachts and motor-boats as required. Care will be taken of the boats while alterations are being carried out. Bowling Match. A friendly bowling match played on the Lyttelton green yesterday afternoon between the Riccarton Bowling Club and a team representing the Lyttelton Club was won by the visitors by 30 points to 8.
