BECKENHAM AFFAIRS.
At the monthly meeting- of the Beckenham Burgesses’ Association. Mr F C Green presided over a fair attendance! correspondence was received from the Christchurch City Council with reference to several important matters,* including channelling in Eastern Terrace. This is a matter in which great interest is being taken, and more will be heard of this important question. The report of the Reserves Committee stated that the repairs to the spouting and painting of the pavilion in Beckenham Park would be attended to. and that assistance in detecting wrong use of the pavilion would be appreciated. The report of the Works Committee stated that the necessary repairs would be carried out in Fisher Street, Norwood Street and Birdwood Avenue, and that consideration of tar-sealing work would be considered in the next estimates. The M.E.D. stated that the question of inefficient lighting owing to the trees in the district was being investigated. Attention was drawn to the need for a resident caretaker at Beckenham Park and the City Council is to be approached on the matter. It was decided to supnort the City Council in its stand with regard to Sunday tennis, and a letter of appreciation we« sent to the council. The Works Committee of the eouneil was eomnlimented on its nromnt attention to the repairs of Fisher Street. It was decided to revert to the old hour of commencing meetines at 7.30 p.m. on the first Monday of evorv month in the Beckenham School, and to make it known that all residents and others interested would be welcomed.
