WOMEN’S GOLF.
Autumn Foursomes at Shirley. The first round of the autumn foursomes conducted under the auspices of the New Zealand Ladies’ Golf Union was played at Shirley this morning. The competition is played on handicap and the limit of the handicap is 20. The weather was in contrast to last week’s. There were passing showers but not sufficient to interfere with play. There is an entry of 48 pairs, mostly confined to local clubs. Results:— Mrs E. Hartley Smith and Miss B. Hobbs beat Mrs Lewis and Miss Rudkin, 2 up. Mrs R. Francis and Mrs O. Mills beat Mrs P. S. Foster and Miss Greenslade, 5 and 4. Mrs W. J. Owens and Mrs L. Smith beat Mrs D. H. Butcher and Miss R. Maefarlane, 2 up. Mrs G. IT. Reid and Miss H. Loughnan beat Mrs J. E. Donald and Mrs Vernon, 6 and 4. Miss V. Campbell and Miss G. Campbell beat Mrs E. C. Chartres and Miss C. Penn, 5 and 3. Miss E. White-Parsons and Miss E. Parsons beat Miss E. Maefarlane and Miss M. Morton, 5 and 4. Mrs A. C. M'Killop and Miss R. C. Wilson beat Mrs N. Rattray and Miss D. Anderson. 4 and 3. Miss B. Holmes and Miss D. Fleetwood beat Mrs C. Deans and Mrs P. Bortliwick, 4 and 3. Mrs W. Russell and Mrs A. Waddell beat Mrs G. C. Wilkin and Miss D. Brv»ce, by default. Mrs D. E. Maefarlane and Mrs P. R. Dearden beat Mrs B. A. Miles and Mrs H. Throp by default. Mrs J. F.
