Action is being taken by the Canterbury S.P.C.A. in regard to an incident connected with the Amberley ewe fair. It was stated that during the discharge of sheep from the upper decks of double railway trucks a ramp had not been used, but that drovers had put dogs in and made the sheep jump down four or five feet at a risk of broken legs. The inspector stated that the report had been investigated and had been found to be substantially correct. There had been no accidents. He had been told that apart from the unloading ramp seven portable races were provided, but these were fairly heavy and required four j men to lift them to the top deck of a j truck. „ _ 1
