WOMEN'S GOLF.
Semi-finals Played at Shirley. PROVINCIAL TITLE. The conditions for the second day’s play in the women’s Easter tournament at Shirley were perfect. There was a r-alm, still day, and a good light. The results. however. were disappointing, and the standard of play was not up to what is looked for in a tournament. The second and semi-final rounds of the championship and the Shirley Cup, a bogey match and a fourball bogey, were played. In the championship, the holder, Miss V. Fleming, held her ground, and meets Miss E. White-Parsons in the final. Miss White-Parsons owes her place to her accurate and steady play. Miss Lioughnan put up an exceedingly good round to eliminate Miss Barns liraham, but she failed badly in the afternoon. Miss Barns Ora ham was not up to her usual standard. Miss Beadel had her game against Miss White-Par-sons well in hand, but crashed badly in the run home. Results CHAMPIONSHIP. First Round. Miss Fleming beat Mrs M’Killop, 4 and S. Miss K. Notes on the Play. Miss Fleming and Miss Johnston were very evenly matched until the ninth, where a beautiful 2 gave Mias
Johnston the lead. Miss Johnston increased the margin at the tenth, but Miss Fleming took the two next holes and squared. Old Nick was halved in 3 and Shirley in 5. Miss Fleming won the fifteenth and sixteenth and was dormy. The seventeenth was halved in 4, leaving Miss Fleming the winner, 2 and 1. Miss Johnston made an excellent showing against a doughty opponent. After Miss Loughnan’s good display in the morning her afternoon round was most disappointing, whereas her opponent, Miss White-Parsons, continued the steady game she put up against Miss Beadel in the morning round. Miss Loughnan’s tee shots were of great length, but were erratic and frequently found the rough. Miss Parsons established a 3-up lead at the turn, out in 40, with good steady play. In the run home she took the tenth and eleventh. The twelfth was halved and another win to Miss Parsons at the thirteenth gave her the hole and the match. Miss Parsons's play was very steady throughout, whereas Miss Loughnan's game was a contrast to her morning form.
