"DILIGENCE” CERTIFICATE.
The very first “ diligence ” certificate is won by Kathleen Turner, Merivale. Hearty congratulations. It is a pretty green tinted one printed in chocolate brown. Each certificate is bigger and prettier than the last. They’d look fine in your bedroom or your workshop. Are you working for one? PENFRIENDS WANTED. Marie Byrne (9-10vrs), Ikamatua, Reefton Line, West Coast. Leslie Frazer, 35, Travers Street, Linwood. WOULD YOU DO THIS? It’s such a shame we had to place this in a page dedicated to beauty, but a letter in the “Star” this week reports that at a gathering of students in the city a live kitten was thrown from the gallery to the stage! Do you not consider this a very degrading, cruel and thoughtless thing to do? To use power over a helpless kitten for such a debasing purpose brings discredit to everyone. We must always think hard and well before we do cruel things or before our actions hurt other people. One thoughtless person in this instance brings discredit on some hundreds. Starlets will mark this as one of the things that simply are not done. QUESTIONS ASKED. What is “Gowk’s Day”? It is the Scotch ten/ for April 1 A “gowk” is a silly fellow or a fool. Did Aunt Hilda get fooled? Yes. of course, properly. Did she get an Easter egg? No, but pieces from several others! Some were very small pieces, for very small people do not like parting with their sweets. Ha! Ha! Did Joke-Box get an egg? Yes, a good-bad one!
