THE PRIZE STORY.
“ What Autumn Means to Mother.” One of the busiest times of the year for Mother is autumn. We must first consider the making of jam and pickles. Who sees to this task? Why, Mother. For days she is seen bottling fruit, jam and pickles. The store of flower seeds and vegetable seeds is another item- The next is the overhaul of our winter clothing. Some of them Mother can mend while others she replaces. If she is able. Mother knits the family’s warm garments for the winter. She also prepares extra blankets for the beds. While Mother is busy with her autumn work it is our duty to help her all we can with the every-day work. Brenda Payne. (Original.) THE MOUSE’S WEDDING. In a comer of the garden, Just behind the chicken house, I have found a little mouse hole. And inside it lives a mouse. I have often seen him playing. Very grey and very small. And when I go close tip to him He doesn’t mind at all. Then one morning he got married. Oh, the wedding was so grand! Such a crowd of friends had come that There was scarcely room to stand. But the pair drove off quite safely. And I threw such lots of rice— Which, I found, was eaten later By the other little mice.
