“ The bottom of the river is coming up,” declared the president of the Canterbury Rowing Association (Mr F. D. Kesteven), when the condition of the Avon rowing course was discussed at the meeting of the Canterbury' Rowing Association last night. Mr Kesteven advanced the opinion that the holding up of the water bv the weir at the lower end of the course caused the river-borne silt to settle. The secretary (Mr R. J. Robbs): “If the weir is there, there must be the same amount of water. vVe don’t need the river sweeper over the course yet.
