GIRLS’ TOURNEY.

Canterbury Win Shield at Wanganui. (Special to the “ Star.”) WANGANUI, February 22. The Canterbury girls* cricket team, after beating Wanganui 13 team yesterday by 36 9 runs tp 32 on the first innings, met Wellington Technical Did Girls to-day in the final match for the New Zealand ehampionsiiip. The southerners completely outplayed Wellington in every department of the game, batting, bowling and fielding. In Wellington's first innings Miss Taylor took .six wickets for eight runs and two for no runs in the second. Miss Hooper just missed doing tile hat trick, taking three wickets with four balls, her average for the innings being three for 11 runs. The only one lu stand up against the fast bowling of the southerners was Miss EH. who made 12. Wellington scored only 2S in the first innings and in the second essay fared worse, it being a perfect rout, all being out for 11. There were six runouts, which shows the brilliancy of the fielding. Canterbury batted first and ran up a total of 213 for the loss of nine wickets, and declared at the tea adjournteam’ t a B :UnsL a stronger it was yesterday, when Miss Marks made 103 and Miss Te Rangi 100, both retiring unbeaten. Though the scoring was not so big to-day all but two had double figures. Miss Marks was brilliantly taken by Miss Hunter at cover after making 52. Miss D. Preece made 28 nicely and Miss Te Rangi 22, Miss Hooper 48, Miss Webster 29. The fielding of the Canterbury girls was excellent ail round, the wicketkeeping of Miss Webster being an outstanding feature, especially her taking of balls on the leg side. By this win Canterbury take Amalgamated Pictures Shield, which they will bold for challenge matches on the same lines as the Hawke Cup. Miss Johnstone, Wanganui A, secured the trophy for best bowling average, and Miss Corby, captain of the Wanganui A team, the medal for highest individual score during the series. She made 106. retired, in the match against Wanganui J 3 team to-day, playing a chanceless innings. The Canterbury team, which is remaining here to-morrow, will play a friendly game against Wanganui A team, whom they efid not meet in the championship games. Canterbury scores against Wellington
