SWIMMING.

Successful Carnival at Ashburton. (Special to the “ Star.'*) ASHBURTON, February 22. Ono of the most successful carnivals organised by the Ashburton Amateur Swimming: Club for a number of years was held in the Borough School Baths this evening. There was a large attendance. The weather was ideal and some splendid racing- was witnessed. A feature of the carnival was the appearance of Otago and Southland representatives who took part in the New Zealand championships earlier in the week and also a number of prominent Canterbury swimmers. The Mayor, Mr W. IT. Woods, extended a welcome to the visiting swimmers, several of whom gave an interesting exhibition of fancy diving.
