REPUBLIC SHORT-LIVED.
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received February 23, 1.30 p.m.) CALCUTTA, February 22. The Moslem Government of the new Turki Republic has had a short existence. Several thousand Tungans, who were besieged in the citadel at Kashgar by Republican troops, made a successful sortie in the week-end simultaneously with an attack by 1000 Tungan troops on the flank of the Government forces, who retired in disorder. Khojaniaz Haji, President, the Premier, and other members of the Government, with a number of troops, have fled the country. No fighting or looting is reported in Kashgar. The Tungans are believed to favour government by the Chinese Republic.
