MOTOR-CYCLING.

Pioneer Club’s Reliability Trial. The Pioneer Club's major reliability trial, held over the week-end, proved a gruelling test for the motor-cycles, and there were five retirements at the end of the first day. Thirteen competitors started on Saturday on a course which embraced a good deal of Banks Peninsula. The roads were difficult, and taxed the machines and riders to the utmost. Leaving the club rooms, the route followed Dyer’s Pass Road to the Sign of the Kiwi. The competitors then passed through Teddington. The route continued via the coast road to Purau and Port Levy, up Western Valley to the summit, down the other side to the foot, up the cattle track to Hilltop, Barry’s Bay, Wainui, up the Jubilee track, down Okuti Valley to Little River. From Little River travelling was considerably easier, and the riders were checked at the Showgrounds and conveyed to Howarth and Thomas’s garage, where the machines were kept in control over night. The course for the next day was to the Bealey, via the West Coast Road through Courtenay. Sheffield and Craigieburn. returning by the same route as that taken on the outward journey. On arrival at the garage the machines were examined by the official motor mechanics under the supervision of Mr F. Haworth for defects. These will be checked up. the time schedules examined and the awards announced tomorrow. The following riders clocked in on Saturday at the Showgrounds to schedule:—W. C. Browne, E. H. Buckley, U. A.
