NEW SIRE’S SUCCESS. Lord Warden received a valuable advertisement at Riccarton when his son Custodian won the Middle Park Plate. This success followed quickly on the first win of the Lord Warden progeny in New Zealand, scored by Lady Kyra at New Plymouth. Lord Warden, a chestnut, was bred in England in 1925 and imported to the Dominion in 1930 by Mr G. A. Kain, of the Gladstone Park stud at Orari. He is a close relation to the Spearmint horse Spearhead, sire of Spearfelt (winner of the Melbourne and Australian Cups), also of The Dimmer (winner of the Sydney Cup). Hurry On, sire of Lord Warden, was never beaten on the racecourse, where his successes included the St Leger, at Doncaster. He headed the English winning sires’ list in 1926, and his progeny include Coronach (Derby victor). Captain Cuttle (Derby victor) and Call Boy (Derby victor). Another son is Roger de Busli, sire of Rogilla. Hurry On was by the Marco horse Marcovil, and Lord Warden’s dam was Hythe, by Chaucer (son of St Simon) from Miss Gunning 11. by Carbine from Memoire (winner of the Oaks and St Leger) by St Simon from Guiner (dam of Maid Marian, who produced Polymelus and Grafton) by Toxophilite from a Young Melbourne mare who was a half-sister to the dam of Musket. Monoxide, dam of Custodian. also produced Red Royal to Rosenor. She is by Boniform from Philomela by Bezonian from Philomel by Birkenhead from Arethusa by Dreadnought from Dryad by St Leger from Woodnymph (sister to Martini Henry) by Musket from Sylvia (dam of Goldshrough and Robin Hood) by Fisherman from Juliet by Touchstone. nAc [XG FIXT 1' RKS.
