BANANA SHIPMENT.
Rough Weather Hampers Loading at Niue. The Government motor-ship, Maui Pomare, which arrived at Lyttelton this morning from Apia and Niue, brought only a small consignment of fruit from Niue, as a result of being unable to complete her loading at the island owing to rough weather. Captain E. Boulton reported that the vessel had experienced rough weather most of the way from Wellington to Apia, northerly and easterly winds and heavy seas prevailing. The weather moderated on reaching Apia, but while loading at Niue Island, it came away rough again, and the Maui Pomare had to leave after loading only 740 cases of bananas instead of 2100 cases. Her Apia loading consisted of 6883 cases of bananas and 7 tons of copra. The Maui Pomare will discharge at Lyttelton 4700 cases of Apia fruit, and 590 from Niue. The vessel should leave for the north this evening. The following passengers arrived by the vessel: —Mr C. R. Delatour. Master R. M’Kenzie, Master A. V. Sydal, Mrs H. E. Hart, Miss C. M’Clymont, Miss J. V. Norrie, from Apia, and Mr R. D. Head from Niue.
