ROWING.

Stewart’s Gully Easter Regatta. PROGRAMME ARRANGED. At a meeting- of the Christchurch Regatta Club on Tuesday night tentative arrangements for the holding of a regatta at Stewart's Gully on Raster Saturday were made. The question was raised by Mr J. B. Taylor who stated that the university crews would he rowing their annual race on that day and it would be a good thing if they could make arrangements to hold an eightoared event at the same time. Mr Rex Hobbs suggested that they run a regatta in conjunction with the varsity eights. 'After general discussion had taken place Mr Taylor moved that a regatta be held at Stewart’s Gully on the Easter Saturday, the programme to consist of light-weight maiden fours, junior fours, youths’ fours, maiden fours and inter-club eights. Tire motion was seconded and carried. All the races are to be over one mile and the prize money was fixed at £3 and £l. The races, with the exception of the inter-club eights, will count for the D.C.L. Cup. Mr D. Lee moved that the same officials as at the Christchurch regatta be appointed again. The motion was carried. The programme will he subject to the lnter-club eights being available. Mr Hobbs said that if they could get the boats he would write to the Canterbury Association and forward a programme. Regatta Club Meets. The Christchurch Regatta Club met on Tuesday, Mr L). Lee presiding. Accounts amounting to £9l Us Gd were passed for payment. of thanks were passed to Messrs W. A. Poison. E. J- Paton, Kit and Thompson for help at the recent regatta. Mr F. D. Kesteven raised the question as to whether the course at Stewart’s Gully was correct. To some it looked as though it was on an angle. Mr R. E. Nightingale said he resented criticism of the course, which was mathematically correct. The same committee had been in charge for years. They inust be fools or the Regatta Club fools for electing them if the work was not satisfactory. In his opinion the crews had crossed over for shelter. In holding the regatta at Stewart’s Gully they had to take the tide into consideration. There was a gale of wind blowing on the day of the regatta and the boats had made for the shelter of the Sttewart’s Gully bank. The flags were straight across the course. # Mr Kesteven said they should alter the programme and put in a junior welter race. That policy had been carried out in the. North Island and the event had filled well. They had to make the events more attractive. He suggested doing away with the single sculls, the senior pairs and the double sculls and putting on welter events in their place. They could not afford to put on welter events and leaVe the other events on By doing that thtey would get big entries. There was no doubt that senior rowing was going back. The matter was then allowed to lapse. Kaiapoi Regatta. T b® Kaiapoi Regatta Committee met on Monday night, the chairman, Mr H. Rinaldi presiding. The order of events for the forthcoming regatta was drawn up as follows-Light-weight Maiden Fours, Junior Pair Oar Maiden Four Oar, Youths’ Double Sculls, Light-weight Maiden Double Sculls, Junior Double Sculls and Maiden Double sculls. Entries close on February 15.

It was decided to invite the Canterbury Rowing Association to arrange an exhibition Height-oar event.

The committee will approach the Waimakariri Harbour Board regarding the moving inshore of the landing stage Club by the Waim akariri Power Boat-
