FINAL GALLOPS.

Tests for Riccarton Candidates.

GALLOPS ON COURSE PROPER. Though overcast, it was fine from the outset of training operations at Riccarton this morning. The course bore plenty of evidence of its latest soaking but the outside of the course proper, on which all the fast work was done, was good going. Liege Lord ran half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Cleaner, with Red Dance for company over the last six, ran seven furlongs leisurely, taking lmin 36sec. Cricket Bat and Shatter were associated for a mile gallop. Cricket Bat got the better of the jump away but Shatter stuck to his task well and was only a length away at the finish. The time was lmin 44sec, the first half mile in 51sec. Both went nicely. Meprisant travelled pleasingly in running seven furlongs in lmin 30sec. Guarantee got over half a mile in 50 3-ssec. High Rank and Wild Sky were not pushed out in their seven furlong gallop and they took lmin 35 2-ssec. Copyist tried to get away with A. H. Eastwood and in the effort to restrain his eagerness, he missed jumping away with Heather Glow'. He soon made tip his leeway but Heather Glow* reached the winning post tw'O lengths to the good in lmin 32sec. Nightly and Custodian ran five furlongs in lmin 4sec and both w’ent well. Tunneller went half a mile in 51 2-ssec. With a flying start. Dollar Prince looked like making good time over seven furlongs, but he was slowing down at the end and the gallop took lmin 33sec. At the end of six furlongs run in lmin 19sec, The Masquerader was half a length in front of Tout le Monde, w’ith Doiran four lengths away. Tout le Monde was last half way. King March and Ramo jumped away from the mile post four lengths ahead of Rocket. At the finish King March was only a neck in front of Rocket with Ramo half a length away. The first half mile w’as run in 52sec, and the full journey in lmin 43 4-ssec. Rocket’s effort was impressive. Imperial Spear and Sibella ran six furlongs in lmin 19 2-sseo. Argentic worked usefully’ on. the sand. Silver Rine was let off with half a mile in 53 2-ssec. Grand Review ran the same distance in 52 2-ssec.

After Breakfast. Variant, who worked yesterday, was let off easily. Several other Riccarton candidates fared similarly. Chidden and- Orris did an easy halfmile. Nightguard and Cotirtyard ran seven furlongs in lmin 34 2-ssec. Accompanied by Gayspear, Rational 11. was given a working gallop over a mile, which took lmin 52sec. Going along the back, Ranelagh and Cinders did half a mile in 53sec. Cup Bearer, who had Bell Hill for company, went well in running half a mile in 51sec. Marcus Cicero ran five furlongs in lmin 4 2-ssec. Half a mile in 52 l-ssec went down to Copenna. Silver Foil and Knowledge were lmin 21 2-ssec over six furlongs. Some Shamble, with Silver Sight joining in for the last six furlongs, ran seven in lmin 32 3-ssec. Sky Rover was slightly in front of Lady Zeph\’r when seven furlongs had been put past in lmin 32 3-ssec. Liberate and the Robespierre—Sky Quest filly ran half a mile in 53sec. Picked up by Quietly, Royal Sceptre went six furlongs in lmin 19 2-ssec. Silver Brier and Strong Light, after a slow beginning, completed six furlongs in lmin 18 2-ssec. Manetho and Bright Shade ran the first half-mile of their work in 51 l-ssec. Gay Robe beat Earthquake over five furlongs in lmin 6sec. Cranford beat Golden Dart over six furlongs in lmin 18 4-ssec. Royal Amphora was going very easily in covering half a mile in 54sec. Metal Bird and Weatherly ran six furlongs in lmin 19sec. Arcade and Advance Camp, after going round the jumping ring, schooled well over four hurdles.
