SWAB TAKEN.

Case of Prolyxo at Thames Races. The Thames Jockey Club has received from the New Zealand Racing Conference a copy of the analyst’s report on the samples forward in regard to the Prolyxo case. The conference has instructed the club to take the necessary action, and a meeting of the committee of the club has been called for Friday. At the Thames Jockey Club’s meeting on January 13, under official supervision, a veterinary surgeon took a swab of the saliva of Prolyxo after she had run unplaced in the Thames Plate Handicap. A bottle containing the remainder of a fluid that had been administered to Prolyxo by means of a syringe down the throat, and what fluid was left in the sj'ringe itself, were also taken possession of. The swab was taken with the approval of Prolyxo’s owner, Mr L. S. Otway, and in the presence of Mr C. Gomer, chief stipendiary steward to the New Zealand Racing Conference, and Mr F. Cullen, racecourse inspector. Prolyxo is a sister to Ammon Ra, being a four-year-old mare by Limond from Hvades, and has been fairly successful, winning five races last season and two this season. Her career has been affected by bleeding, and the attendant who administered the fluid stated that it was given for the purpose of checking the tendency to bleed during the race. Prolyxo later also ran unplaced in the Farewell Handicap.
