NEW CHURCH HALL.
Dedicated at St Luke’s, Manchester Street. IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY.' The new» hall at St Luke's .Anglican Church, Manchester Street, was dedicated at a special service yesterday afternoon. The ceremony was performed in impressive manner by his Lordship, Bishop West-Watson, and a large congregation joined in the proceedings. The ceremony began at the church, from whence Bishop West-Watson. preceded by the choir and clergy, led the way to the new hall. Knocking on the west door with his staff, he then demanded entrance. The doors w’ere flung open by the church-warden and the party proceeded to the platform where the service of dedication was continued. The vicar, the Ven Archdeacon F. N. Taylor, after introducing Bishop WestWatson, spoke of the history of the Sunday School Hall. The first start on the replacing of the old hall with a new structure, was made in 1924, when the north wing was erected at a cost of £2600. Then had come the depression, and the work had been held up until now. Those responsible for the building had been encouraged to continue their efforts by the offer of the Government- subsidy and in the m.onths since April l ast had raised £6OO to add to the £9OO previously in hand. The building had cost £2068, and there was a balance of £SOO to pay off. /Bishop West-Watson congratulated all who had assisted in the work and spoke of the value of such a hall in the social functions of the Church, and of those social activities that took place under its aegis.
