Successful Regatta at Lyttelton. Probably the most successful regatta organised at Lyttelton for many years was that held on Saturday by the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association as a preliminary to the Sanders Cup contest, which commences at Lyttelton to-day. With all the Sanders Cup contenders engaged, the regatta attracted considerable attention, and hundreds of people watched the racing under Ideal conditions. . _ Alost interest centred in the Canterbury fourteen-footers’ championship, in which the competitors included Lavina (Wellington). Favoured by ideal conditions, the picnic at which the visiting Sanders Cup crews were entertained yesterday, at Ripa Island. was as successful as Saturdays regatta. Nearly thirty of the Canterbury Yacht Club’s fleet, in addition to tlve R.N.V.R. cutter Deveron, and two passenger launches, transported a large crowd of officials and enthusiasts to the island. Sailing races and a tug-of-war competition comprised the day’s sports programme. In the final of the tug-of-war, the crew of the Wellington boat, Lavina, defeated a team from the Deveron’s crew. The sailing races resulted:— Ladies’ Race—Atom (B. Dowell, lmin) 1, Tipsy (D. Parr, 4min> 2, Wee May (O. Hobbs. 2min) 3. Eight started. Delegates’ Race—Rascal (Al. Smith. Canterbury) 1, Uira (F. J. Briggs, Southland) 2, Wairuna (E. K. S. Pasley, Southland) 3, Atom (Captain W. J. Keane, Wellington) 4. All-Comers’ Race—lrene (E. O. Sinclair, 12min), 3hr 49min 45sec. 1; Avenger (R. Priddey, I2min), 3hr 51 min SOsec, 2: Kia Ora (J. Collins, lOmin), Ohr olmin 32sec, 3. Also started—Val (Southland), Lavina (Wellington), Elgin (12min), Deveron (40min), Atom (22min), Wren (20min). Boojum and Linnet (ISmin), Water Beetle and Hakari (lOmin), Alana (7min), Waiata (4mln). Alarangi (2min), Waimana (scr). The miniature cups awarded for each event were afterwards presented by the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association's president, Mr H. W. Harris. Captain Keane expressed the visitors’ appreciation of the hospitality shown them.
