BUTCHERS’ PICNIC.

Held on New Brighton Racecourse. The annual picnic of the Christchurch butchers, which was postponed from last Monday, was held during the week-end at the New Brighton racecourse. More than -100 attended. A programme of races was held, and with pleasant weather, the day was very sue* cf ssf ul. Arrangements were in the charge of Mr R. Booker, assisted by Mr CJ. Robertson (secretary) and a strong committee. The events were judged by Mr F. Agar. The handicappers were Messrs G. W. Robertson, R. Booker and

J. Rogers, and the starter. Mr G. W. Robertson. The following were the winners of the events:— Old boys' race—M. Collins 1, Smnllbone 2. Huston 3. Single women's race—Miss M'Nab 1, Miss Blain 2. Butcher's race—.Newsome 1, Harper 2, M'Jennett 3. Married butchers’ wives’ race—Mrs A'Court 1, Mrs Shack well 2, Mrs L. Dixon 3. Married men's race—l.. Harper 1, RM'Pherson 2, G. A’Court 3. Married wotuui's race—Mrs Ayers 1, Mrs Palermo 2, Mrs Carey 3. Union handicap—Collins l, Newsome 2, Evans 3, Drury 4. Relay race—W. Drury, Harper, O'Connell and Batchelor. Master butchers’ race—Hibberd 1, M'Brayne 2, Rortc-h 3. Visitors’ race—Murray 1, Kerr 2, Flint 3.

Old-timtr's race—G. Robertson 1, R. Booker 2. Baby show (judges, Mesdame* R. Booker and F. Agar)— Girls under 12 months: Barbara Fabian 1. Ann Holmes 2, Marie Smith 3. Boys under 12 months: Byron Dedgard 1. Brian Sliackel 2, Ronald Sutherland 3. After the events toy* were distributed to all children, and novelties were provided for the children. The prize* were presented by Messrs Booker, Robertson, and Agar.
