Miss Ina de Malmanche, Jackson’s Road, Fendalton, is visiting friends in Timaru. Miss Eileen Orchard, Papanui Road, has returned home after spending a week's holiday at Timaru. Mrs Kenneth Macdonald, Fendalton, who is staying at Mount Mason, will return home early next week. Mrs W. J. Watson and family, Merivale, have returned home from a visit to Queenstown and Dunedin. Mrs John Grigg, Fendalton, who has been staying with her son and daugh-ter-in-law, Mr and Mrs J. H. Grigg, Longbeach, has returned to town. Mrs C. J. Badeley, of Remuera, Auckland, and Miss Dorothy Badeley have returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs George Reed and Miss Mary Reed, Mount Albert, have returned home after spending a holiday in Christchurch and Woodbury. Mrs Denis, Muir, of Auckland, who ha's been staying with her mother, Mrs G. Miss Jewel Hobbs, Boulton Avenue, left last evening for Wellington, where she will be the guest of Mrs J. Moss, Island Bay. Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., and Mrs Kyle, Riccarton, left for Wellington last evening en route for the celebrations at Waitangi. Miss Vera Steele, Tankerville Street, Spreydon, left Christchurch last night by the steamer express to join the R.M.S. Niagara for Suva. Mrs W. .L. Russell and her two children. Wanganui, who have been visiting Mrs Russell’s parents, Mr and Mrs Howard James, Circuit Street, St Albans, have returned north. Mrs J. R. Olliver, of Gisborne, and formerly of Christchurch, arrived in Christchurch with her son lan, and is staying with Mrs L. T. Olliver, Carlton Mill Road, Merivale. Mrs Eric Bullock, Auckland, who was the guest of Mrs L. Scaife, Christchurch, is now the guest of Mrs G. B. Bullock, Fendalton, before returning to the North Island. The Rev and Mrs J. Lawson Robinson, St Andrew’s Manse, Hagley Avenue, returned home yesterday from a holiday spent at Hanmer Springs and Sumner. Mr and Mrs V. H. Line, who have been living in Mrs Peek’s house, Hanmer Springs, for the holidays, returned yesterday, to their home, Kipling Street, Spreydon. Mr and Mrs Howard James, Circuit Street, have taken Mr and Mrs A. W. Reeve’s house in Carlton Mill Road, and will move in-, about February 12 Mr and Mrs A. K. Firth have bought Mr James’s house in Circuit Street. Mrs H. D. Hall and Miss Rita Hall, Fendalton, will leave England to-day by the Orsova on their return voyage to New Zealand. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Rudkin and their daughter Joap, whose home is in Glandovey Road, will be their fellow passengers on board. . Christchurch visitors to Waitangi for the celebrations there include the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and Mrs Sullivan), the Hon G. J. Smith and Mrs Smith, “ Riverlaw,” St Martins, and Mr Henry Holland, M.P., an 3 Mrs Holland, Gracefield Street. Mr and Mrs T. T. Armstrong and family, Fendalton, returned to town this week from their cottage at Diamond Harbour. Miss Valmai Gundstrum, Dunedin, is at present the guest of Miss Myra Armstrong, and will remain in Christchurch till the end of next week. Mr and Mrs W. J. Hampton Reynolds, Papanui, will leave this evening for Auckland to attend the Royal Show. Later they will be the guests of the Rev W. Averill and Mrs Averill, Ponsonby, and Mr and Mrs R. Kenner, Orakei, returning via Nelson, where they will stay with Dean Haggitt and Mrs Haggitt, and visiting Westport and Greymonth. Miss Teape and her niece, Miss Kath*e®n. Teape, of Auckland, are visiting Christchurch and are the guests of Mrs A. I. Rattray, Mansfield Avenue. Thev will go to Dunedin and the Southern lakes on Monday. Miss Kathleen Teape has received news while in Christchurch of her success in securing her Master of Arts degree at the recent university examinations.

Wadworth, Brancott, who have been visiting relatives in Christchurch, have returned home. Miss Betty Cotterill, St Elmo Courts, will leave next week on a visit to Mrs Charles Rattray, Dunedin. Mrs F. A. Brittan, Avonside, will return on Mon4ay from a visit to Hanmer Springs. Mr and Mrs J. R. M’Kenzie, Yaldhurst Road, will leave this evening for Wellington en route to England. Mrs J. E. Todhunter and family, Merivale, will return on Monday from a holiday at Clarence Bridge. Miss Lilian Kennard, Oxford Terrace, has arrived in Auckland after spending some days at Rotorua. Miss Joan Roll, Oamaru, is in Christchurch on a visit to her sister, Mrs Sandom. Miss Elsie Staples, Riccarton, returned this morning from a holiday spent in New Plymouth. Miss Maud Stringer, who has been visiting her brother at Methven, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs H. C. King, Ferry Road, Woolston, and Miss Enoid Robinson, Opawa, are visiting Mrs Brown, Duntroon. Miss Eileen Ryan, who has spent a month’s holiday with friends in Karori, Wellington, has returned to her home in Riccarto.n. Mr and Mrs E. Angas Jones, St James Avenue, Papanui, have taken a house at Sumner for a fortnight, and went into it to-day. Mrs J. M’Elroy and her two daughters, Noeline and June, Spreydon, returned home to-day after spending a holiday at New Brighton. Mr and Mrs E. J. Chappie, Forfar Street, St Albans, who have been spending five weeks’ holiday at New Brighton, have returned to town. Mr and Mrs J. Henderson and Mr G. R. Saunders, Greymouth, have been staying at the Glacier Hotel, Franz Josef. Mrs R. L. Kennett and family, who have been spending the school holidays at Ripa Island as the guest of Mrs H. A. Rhind, have returned to Cashmere. .Mr and Mrs A. J. Archibold and family, Cashmere Hills, who have been spending a holiday at Hanmer Springs, returned home to-day. Miss M. Norrie has been appointed to a position on the teaching staff of the New Brighton School. Miss Norrie was previously in charge c>f the school at Takamatua. The Rev H. T. York and Mrs York, St Peter’s Vicacage, Riccarton, arrived home yesterday afternoon by motor from Nelson. Mrs York has spent six weeks in the North Island and Nelson. Dr W. Irving and Miss Helen Irving, Armagh Street West, will leave Christchurch shortly to live in England. They have booked by the Port Alma, sailing at the end of March. Mr and Mrs Harold Greenwood, Teviotdale. North Canterbury, have taken the “ Mill House,” Fendalton, while Mrs Richard Allen is away in England. Mrs Allen and her granddaughter, Miss Juliet Hey gate, will leave Christchurch next week. Tributes to the work qf Miss Kathleen Clarke, who for over eight years has been secretary to the general manager of the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd., and head typist to the company, were paid yesterday by a very large gathering of members of the commercial and other staffs who met to say good-bye to her on the eve of her leaving the staff to be married. The manager (Mr A. Eurns) presented to Miss Clarke on behalf of the Board of Directors a silver tea set. He also presented her with a supply of cutlery and a clock from her fellow-work-ers in the office. The manager formally introduced Miss Winnie Watson, who will succeed Miss Clarke, and who will begin her new duties to-day. Miss Clarjce, after her marriage, will take up residence in Balchitha.
