Counting of Relief Workers’ Votes. With the relief workers’ strike ballot in the North Canterbury provincial area only partly counted there is a majority of approximately 150 in favour of the strike. The aggregate totals received include the voting in four of the six single men’s camps, Lyttelton, and city jobs, where the ballot has so far been counted. No returns have yet been received from Kaiapoi and Ashburton while several other centres have yet to take the ballot. Decision by Wellington Unemployed. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 3. The result of the ballot taken in Wellington on the national relief workers’ strike issue was announced at the Trades Hall this morning as follows: For strike 705, against 1129. It was stated that 780 voting papers had not been returned. There were about 300 at the meeting, and the motion recommending the national executive of the National Unemployed Workers’ Movement to withhold strike action until a more opportune time arrived was carried. > - A meeting called at Petone by the Unemployed Workers’ Movement was attended by about 150 this morning, and there were only ten dissentients to a resolution asking the national executive of the movement to postpone action on the strike issue untila complete ballot could be taken among all relief workers of the Dominion.
