LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT.
Commissioner Talks With Committee. An informal conference was held today between Mr G. C. Godfrey, Commissioner of Unemployment, and members of the Christchurdh Unemployment Committee, Mr Godfrey stated that he had nothing to say on the question of unemployment, but that the local committee seemed to be going on very well. The conference had been held because he had been in Christchurch on departmental business, and thought it a good opportunity for a discussion on unemployment. When asked if his visit had anything to do with the action of the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.,) in regard to the officer in charge of the Labour Department in Christchurch (Mr R. T. Bailey) Mr Godfrey expressed surprise at such a suggestion. Mr Godfrey will visit southern towns when he leaves Christchurch.
