Business on the Stock Exchange continues brisk, and a big list of sales covering a wide range of securities has been completed over the last twentyfour hours. Values generally are firm at late rates. A special feature at the moment is a strong demand for Government issues, and* fair business has been done in this class. Auckland Gas shares seemed a shade easier at this morning's call, being available at the last sale price, namely, 245. In the mining section Okaritos again attracted attention, and buyers moved up to 9s 3d, with holders asking 9s 6d. LATE SALES YESTERDAY. The Nokomai Gold Mining Company’ reports that the first wash-up of No. 3 paddock was completed on Saturday, when 2550 z 7dwt were obtained. A further wash-up will be macfe on Saturday next. The total area of bottom to be cleaned up in No. 3 paddock will be SSft by 176 ft. TALLOW AND HEMIP. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated January 13, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—There was a quiet demand at auction; 1067 casks were offered, of which 245 sold at late rates to 6d decline. Present spot quotations are:— Mutton, fine 24s to 24s 6d. fair to good* 21s to 22s 6d, dark to dull 19s to 19s 6d; beef, sweet and-or mixed 22s to 22s 9d, fair to good 20s to 21s, dark to dull 18s to 19s 3d; mixed, fair to good 20s to 21s, dark to dull 17s 6<? to 19s 3d; gut, etc.. 17s 6d to 19s 3d. Hemp.—Manila: The market is firm and active. “K” grade for JanuarvMarch shipment sold up to £ls ss: for March-May shipment £ls 10s. Sisal: The market is firm. The Nokomai Company reports a wash-up of 2550 z 7dwt from the No. 3 paddock. MAHAXIPAW A GOLDFIELDS. LTD. Advice has been received from the mine manager of Mahakipawa Goldfields that the wash-up for the week produced 17oz alluvial gold. ST ALBANS BUNGALOW SOLD.
