RIDE ON HORSEBACK.
Girls’ Three-day Trip to Kaikoura. Two St Margaret’s College girls enjoyed a ride on horseback from Christchurch to Kaikoura recently, and are now guests on Mr Armstrong’s station, near Kaikoura. Miss Rona Bryce, aged fifteen, youngest daughter of Mr J. Bryce, the well-known trotting trainer, accompanied by Miss Betty Parry, set out on the long ride in high spirits. They rode Sodium, a horse wellknown to patrons of Addington, and Sammy. Rain, snow, sleet and hail were encountered before reaching Waipara. where they were most hospitably treated by the hotelkeeper. On the following day they lunched at Hurunui and spent the second night at Waiau, arriving at their destination after three trying days on the road. Before the advent of the motor-car a journey of this character would not have been considered remarkable, but to-day, so rarely do young girls essay such a long ride on horseback, their journey has been much discussed along the route.
