Christmas Tournament at Shirley. CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The annual Christmas tournament was opened at Shirley yesterday. In the morning the conditions were ideal, with a refreshing easterly breeze, but the nor’-wester in the afternoon was troublesome. The late rain had a most beneficial effect on the course, and the sting was out of the ground. The greens were in great order and played very true. In the morning a bogey handicap was played, and resulted in a tie between E. J. Pumphrey (Shirley) and M. B. Cooke (Harewood), with good cards of 3 up The afternoon event also resulted in a tie, but E. J. Pumphrey and F. R. Morrison’s card was better than J. Dolph and Miss Seay’s over the last nine holes, and they were declared the winners. Pumphrey and Cooke will play off in the bogey handicap to-morrow. Four-ball Bogey. E. J. Pumphrey and F. P.
