Mr E. Rainer (Oamaru) is staving at the Roj-al Hotel. Mr M. Whyte (Wellington) is among the guests at the United Service Hotel. Mr A. J. M’Eldowney left for Wellington last night. Mr C. 11. Burson, president of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, who has been in Lewisham Hospital for some time, was able to return to his home during the week-end. Archbishop Averill has appointed Bishop West-Watson as commissary to call a special session of the Dunedin Diocesan Synod to consider the appointment of a bishop for the Dunedin diocese to succeed Bishop Richards, who has tendered his resignation. The meeting of Synod will probably be held early in February. At present visiting Christchurch is Mr William Robertson, a native of Dunedin, who has been absent from New Zealand for nearly' fifty' years. Mr Robertson, who is a son of Superintendent Robertson, one of the first of Dunedin’s firemen, is a well-known compositor, and is probably one of the oldest men in the trade. He had his earlv training with the “ Otago Daily Times,” the ‘‘ Dunedin Guardian ” and the Dunedin “ Evening Star.”
