(Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, December 26. In the Queen’s Plate Catalogue was the favourite on the win machine, but in the place betting Gay Marigold was most in demand. Neither got in and while Catalogue had every chance Gay Marigold spoiled her prospects by being slow out of the barrier. Across the top Killidar was alongside Sea Fox in the lead with Epigram, Kiltowyn, Spiral and Gay’ Marigold following. Into the straight Killidar and Sea Fox still held the advantage with Epigram, Kiltowyn, Spiral and Gay Marigold still most prominent of the others. In a good race home Epigram wore down Sea Fox and won by half a length with Kiltowyn a neck away. Rereatu was fourth and then followed Catalogue, Spiral, Limbohm, Gay Marigold and Killidar, who faded out in the straight. Victory for Fillies. The result of the Great Northern Foal Stakes was a complete victory for fillies as they- filled all three leading places. Whenuakura was favourite, but he was drawn on the extreme outer and though he began fast and hit the front he did not run on in the straight and there were four in front of him at the judge. The winner defeated Whenuakura in the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie at the spring meeting. When the field jumped out to-dav Gay Blonde, Mother Superior and Whenuakura were quickest into their stride and as they rounded the first bend by the old five furlong post Whenuakura ran into the lead and showed the way through the cutting. Across the top Gay Blonde ran up to and headed Whenuakura, with Mother Superior, Sporting Blood. Pin Money, Burnish, Brown Betty and King Brierley following in that order. Into the straight the order was; Gay Blonde, Whenuakura, Mother Superior, Pin Money, Burnish and Brown Betty. In the run home Mother Superior took charge and won by a neck from the strongly-finishing Brown Betty with GayBlonde a head away. After the placed fillies came Pin Money-, Whenuakura, Sporting Blood, Day Wind, King Brierly and Burnish.
