ASHBURTON TROTS.
Gold Tinge is Winner of Cup. BLUE MOUNTAIN SECOND. The summer meeting of the Ashburton Trotting Club was held to-day in fine weather. There were large fields and the track was in good order. There was a large attendance. Both win and place machines were used. The favourite, Endurance, was unplaced in the first race, the Mitcham Handicap, which was won by Idanoe, seventh and fifth choice, from C'hudleigh, by a length. Mataunga, second favourite both ways, was third. Eddvstone, favourite on both machines, won the Wakanui Handicap by a head from Bide a Wee. Colene Parrish was third, sixth and eighth choice. Gold Tinge won the Ashburton Cup by a neck from Blue Mountain. Gold Tinge was sixth favourite on both machines, and Blue Mountain fourth and fifth choice. Silver de Oro, bracketed with Belinda, fifth and fourth favourite, was two lengths away third. The New Zealand Champion Stakes w'as won by the second favourite, Attorney. by half a length from the first favourite, Morello, after a stern fight. FAVOURITE UNPLACED.
Rousing Finish to Mitcham Handicap. When the Mitcham Handicap had been in progress for two furlongs, Chudleigh. Renegade, Mataunga and Gaynor were racing in close order, with Tdanoe and Endurance at the head of the others. Going to the mile post, Idanoe joined the leading division. Chudleigh led into the straight, followed closely by Mataunga, Idanoe, Renegade and Gaynor. In a rousing finish, Idanoe won by a length from Chudleigh. who beat Mataunga by three lengths. Gaynor and Renegade were next to finish. Endurance, Mother’s Bov and Wahnooka spoilt their chances early in the race by breaking. Endurance was favourite with £S4 10s and 1*75. Idanoe carried £46 10s and £43 10s, Chudleigh £53 10s and £33, and Mataunga £7O each way. Wakanui Handicap. In a desperate finish, Eddvstone beat Bide a Wee bv a head in the Wakanui Handicap. When the field had settled down, Blandford was showing the way to Travis Pringle, Great Iloratius, Eddystone, Replica. Cannon Shot, Great Seaman, Bide a Wee and Golden Harvest. At the end of five furlongs, Rewai and Travis Pringle shot to the front and led to the bend for home, with Bide a Wee, Eddvstone, Cannon Shot. Colene Parrish and Golden Cross racing in that order. Half-way down the straight. Bide a Wee and Eddvstone drew away from their opponents and went on to fight out a tight finish. Bar None, Pekara and Royal Crescent broke at the start. Eddvstone was favourite with £2OS and £149, Bide a Wee £52 and £72, and Colene Parrish £42 and £4O 10s. Ashburton Cup. After waiting on the leaders until well into the straight, Gold Tinge won the Ashburton Cup by a neck from Blue Mountain, after a sharp engagement over the last furlong. Royal Again, Tactless and Regal Voyage broke at the start. Wrackler led for nearly two furlongs, where Blue Mountain went to the front and showed the way along the back to Kingcraft, Sunny Morn. Silver de Oro, Gold Tinge. Roddy and Wrackler. At the mile and a half post the order was Blue Moun-
tain. Silver de Oro, Sunny Morn, Gold Tinge, Ayrmont Chimes and Regal Voyage. Blue Mountain led into the straight, but half-way down the running Gold Tinge collared him and beat him. Ayrmont Chimes was favourite with £3OO and £223 10s. Blue Mountain carried £lO2 10s and £IOB 10s. The bracketed horses carried £BO and £lßl. Gold Tinge carried £69 10s and £124. A silver cup was presented to the owner of Gold Tinge, Mr G. Alexandre, by the Prime Minister, Mr Forbes.
