The three -year-old pacer War Buoy could not fulfil his engagement in the Champion Stakes at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting to-day. While playing in a paddock he injured himself rather badly, and it is doubtful if he will be able to race for some months. The injury is in the hindquarters. and it has not responded to treatment as quickly as his trainer hoped it would. War Buoy is very playful, and is always indulging in some antics in his enclosure. In his loose-box the walls have had to be heavily padded to prevent him from injuring himself. To date, War Buoy holds an unbeaten record of five wins in five starts, and has earned £1365 in stake-money.
