THE SOCIAL ROUND.

Gatherings Held in Town and Suburbs. PSYCHOLOGY PEACE CENTRE. The Psychology Peace Centre held its final social and dance for this year in the Regent Hall. Games, competitions and dancing were enjoyed. Gifts for all were hung on a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. During the evening a presentation was made to the president, Mrs Steadman, in recognition of the services she has rendered the centre. Miss A. Shearsby was pianist for the evening arjd Mr J. Foster was M.C. Songs were rendered by Mrs D. Steadman, Miss A. Pollard, Mr T. Wallace and Mr A. Polkinhorne, and a recitation was given by Mr J. Foster. Among those present were: Mesdames D. Richards, Avonside, was the guest of honour at a social evening on Wednesday night given by the ladies of St David’s Art Club. During the evening Mrs Richards was presented with a handbag in token of appreciation from the club members for her tuition during the year. Mrs Laurence Rogers in making the presentation paid a tribute to the work vl the guest of honour, and thanked her for the encouragement she had given members. Opportunity w r as taken also to make presentations to Mesdames Barnes and M’Coy, who had also been instructors to the club. Those present enjoyed games and competitions, and items were given by Mrs Greenwav. Misses Valerie Cater and Margaret Wilson. Birthday Party.

The Psychology Centre gave a delightful social and birthday party to their president last Tuesday evening at the Regent Hall, over 100 guests being present. The programme consisted of novelty waltzes, competitions and games. Everyone present received a gift for Christmas from a large decorated tree. The solos were rendered by Miss Pollard, Mr Polkinghome, Mrs Steadman and Mr Wallace, and recitations by Mr Foster. A presentation was made by the students to the president in appreciation of the work done in the student classes. January 23, will be the date of the next meeting held in the Library Hall. Farewell Party.

Mrs Douglas M’Donald, who will leave Christchurch next week for Palmerston North, where she will make her home, was the guest of honour at a very enjoyable party given yesterday afternoon by Mrs W. Matson and Mrs Winston Philp, at Mrs Matson’s home in Aikmans road. Two competitions, which caused much amusement, were won by Miss Joan Cottrell and Miss Nora Stevens. The guests were:—Mesdames M'Donald, Huthwaite Ronaldson, Melville Dearsley, Guy Nlcoll, Mieses Prue Wynn Williams. Nancy Salmondi Rima Fraer, Elisabeth Tipping, Bois OUivier, Agatha l pham, Joy Tennent, Joan Cottrell, Joyce Mac Gibbon and Nora Stevens.
