COLLEGE WIN.

Wanganui Beaten in Annual Boat Race. IMPRESSIVE FORM. Christ’s College beat Wanganui College by four lengths in the annual boat race, rowed on the Avon this morning. The race was rowed under ideal conditions over a mile course from below Swann’s Road to the College boatsheds. There was plenty of water in the river, and weather conditions were ideal, the surface showing hardly a ripple. The Christ’s College crew, rowing the Fairbairn style, got away to a slight lead at the start, and increased it steadily over the whole of the journe}*. Their work was strong and polished, leaving them a wide margin of safety. The crews were:— Christ’s College—Stroke, H. F. Flower, 12st 41b; No. 3, S. M. Gray (captain), list 71b; No. 2, T. J. Holderness, list 21b; bow, R. T. S. Ferguson, list 121 b; cox, B. Hill. Wanganui College—Stroke, D. M. Didsbury, list 41b; No. 3, G. B. Gibbons (captain), 12st 91b; No. 2, R. I. Aldworth, 12st 21b: bow, G. L. Mason, lOst 21b; cox. C. J. M. Gardner. Mr 'A. J. Dunn coached the Christ’s College crew, and the Wanganui coach was Mr R. O. C. Marks. Mr R. J. Hobbs acted as umpire. When the crews took their positions at the start the roads along the river were packed with cars and bicycles, and those who followed the race had an arduous time dodging the many and varied vehicles, as well as those optimists who ran. Wanganui, who as the visiting crew had the choice, elected to row on the north side of the course. When the flurry of the start was over. Christ’s had jumped into a lead of half a length, and dropped into a smooth, long stroke, 24 to the minute, which was maintained with undiminished power right through. Wanganui were shorter in the water, and rowed a quicker stroke without effect.
