BEACH RACES

G. Hockley Wins Lightweight Championship. The Pioneer Sports Club's beach races were held at North Beach on a heavy course. Motor-cycle times were slower than usual due, probably, to the shortness of the circuit, two miles, as against the usual four. The following were the results:— NOVICE HANDICAP. (Four Miles.) E. 11. Buckley (22 h.p. Harley-David-son), 48sec 1 L. V. Ettwill (3i h.p. Ariel), 28sec .. 2 Also competed: J. Deyell (3* h.p. Ariel). 28sec, and AV. Lawrence (3i h.p. Norton) 36sec. Buckley led all the way and won easily. The placed men were the only riders to finish. Times—4min 28 4-ssec, 4min 23 3-ssec. LIGHT-WEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP (Twelve Miles.) G. AV. Hockley (2J h.p. O.K. Supreme) 1 E. H. Buckley (22 h.p. HarleyDavidson) 2 V. C. Brown© <22 h.p. A.J.S.) . ... 3 Hockley led at two miles, and went away from Buckley on the turn. At four miles Buckley had a slight lead from Hockley. Browne was well out of the picture. Hockley had regained the lead at six miles, and at eight miles was leading comfortably. Hockley went on to win easily. Browne was a long way back third. Times—l3min 15 4-ssec, 13 min 26 4-ssec, 14min 53 OPEN HANDICAP (Sixteen Miles). J. Deyell (31 h.p. Ariel), H2sec 3 V. C. Browne (22 h.p. A.J.S.), 20Ssec 2 E. H. Buckley (22 h.p. Harley-David-I son), 192 sec 3 L. E. Evans (31 h.p. Rudge), scr .. 4 At two miles Browne Led from Lawrence and Buckley, with a big bunch close on their heels. At four miles Browne still led. At six miles Buckley and Browne led from Homer and Hockley. Hockley stopped on the eight-miles turn and Buckley went into the lead from Homer and Deyell. The succeeding laps saw several retirements, including Hockley, Harrington and Evans. Evans restarted and secured 1 fourth place. Deyell won by a lap. Times—l6min 29 3-ssec, 21 min 4sec, 22min 36sec. LIGHT-CAR HANDICAP (Eight Miles). C. Blacklock (Singer Sports), 65sec I K. Wilkin (Singer Sports), SOsec. . . 2 B. J. Tench (Singer Sports), scr .. 3 Blacklock caught Wilkin in the final lap and won by twenty-five yards. Times—7min 40 l-ssec, Smin 16 4-ssec, “min 28 2-ssec.
