BRIGHTON BOROUGH.
Permission Granted for a Carnival. The New Brighton Borough Council met last evening- the Mayor (Mr E. A. M. Leaver) presiding. A deputation, consisting of the Rev S. Bailey. Messrs P. Nelson, J. Buxton and H. Field, waited on the council with the request that Union Street should not be renamed Owles Street. Mr Bailey presented a petition, signed by forty-one ratepayers and residents in the street, in support of the deputation's request.. On the motion of Councillor Hollo wav, it was decided to take no further action in changing the name of Union Street. The Mayor and town clerk were de pitted to wait on Captain Owles with i egard to the proposal to perpetuate his name in the borough. The license of the New Brighton Pier wa»s renewed for a further period of seven years at a rental of £2O per Permission was granted the New Brighton Beach and Carnival Committee to hold a beach and beauty carnival on the foresho e from Januar-v 13 to 20. The Minister of Defence intimated that it was not considered necessary to provide an emergency landing ground for aeroplanes on the Naval Reserve at South New Brighton. Fieinier Entertainments, Ltd., were Day, subject to the usual conditions The application of the South Brighton Tennis Club for assistance by No. 5 labour to l.?y down an additional court was granted Councillor La wry gave notice to move that the clause moved by Councillor Ainsworth that Mr F. W. Freeman be instructed to prepare levels of Beatty Street as soon after Christmas as possible. and adopted by the council, be rescinded
