TROTTING NOTES.

for the Ashburton Trotting Club’s summer meeting will close on Thursday, at 5 p.m. * * * * Nominations for the Winton Trotting Club’s annual meeting will close on December 8, at S p.m. * * * * Nominations for the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting will close on December 8, at 5 p.m. * * * * Final forfeits for the New Zealand Champion Stakes, to be decided at Ashburton on Boxing Day, are due on Thursdays, at 5 p.m. * * * * A final payment for the Great Northern Derby, to be decided at the Auckland Trotting Club’s Christmas meeting, is due on December 8, at 5 p.m. A LIKELY NOVICE. G. T. Mitchell, the Cambridge trainer, won a number of prizes at the Waikato Show, including the championship of the trotting section, with a neat-looking mare named Miss Real, by Real Guy from Cabin Girl. Miss Real is owned by Mr A. B. Smalley, for whom Mitchell last season trained Dillon Audubon, and it is quite on the cards that when the trotting mare is put to serious work she will turn out useful. Although not asked to show any' speed when paraded at the show, Miss Real displayed a bold, free action, which suggested that she would prove solid when thoroughly educated. ❖ * * * Since she worksed her way' out of the ranks of the slow-class trotters, Etta Cole has proved anything but a success, says an Auckland writer. Judged on recent track work, she is better now than when she last raced, but even so there is not a great deal of encouragement to estimate her ability sufficiently' high to give her a chance of winning in Rowe Cup company-. ❖ * * B. Jarden is contemplating a trip to the West Coast at Christmas time with Ronald Derby, Alf Parrish and the two-year-old Donalda. Present intentions are to do the circuit, beginning with the Westport Trotting Club’s meeting, which will take place on December 26 and 27. The two-year-old will contest the mile events at Westport, but may not be raced again on the circuit. Ronald Derby and Alf Parrish will race at Reefton, Hokitika and Oreymouth. OPPORTUNITIES. Owners of novice pacers are provided with an excellent opportunity of racing their horses at a small cost at the Waikouaiti Racing Club’s and the Oamaru Jockey Club’s meetings, which will be held on January 1 and 2 respectively'. The Waikouaiti Racing Club has two events for trotters and pacers. The Domain Handicap, of 115 so vs, is for horses that can do a mile in saddle in 2min 28sec or faster, and the New Year Handicap, for horses that can traverse a mile and a half in 3min 45sec or better. At the Oamaru Jockey Club’s gathering there is the Oamaru Handicap, of 110 sovs, a 3min 45sec class, one mile and a half, and the Waikaura Handicap, of 115 sovs, for horses capable of covering a mile and a quarter in 3min 7sec or better. Nominations for both meetings will close on December 11, at 9 p.m. * * * 5P A young trotter who should find the slow-class two-mile events at Epsom suitable is Kuini, whose form last season at Thames and Te Aroha was full of promise and stamped her as possessing stamina. In her races she displays a tendency' to mix her gait in the early stages, but when properly' on her feet can turn on a fine turn of speed, and in her victory at Thames gave a brilliant display over the last half-mile. In the longer races Kuini will have a better opportunity to settle down, and with her strong finishing powers her prospects of again paying her wav appear bright. * * * * Roi l’Or is keeping sound, and is training on at Waimate to the satisfaction of his owner, who trains him. Roi l’Or will most likely race at the summer meeting at Ashburton and at the Canterbury Park Club’s meeting. sk sfc * Owing to his tendency to bore out, also to go to a break in his races, Hairst, when trained at Epsom, was not an easy' horse to drive. The baypacer is now in S. August’s stable, and the Otahuhu trainer has trained worse horses than Guid Hairst in his time. As a matter of fact, Guid Hairst has undoubted pace, and if August can correct the horse’s fault of boring and the tendency' to put in a skip, he will win races.
