AUCKLAND CUP.

Weights Declared for Big Ellerslie Double. FLATTERING CUP HANDICAP. Mr F. J. M’Manemin lias issued his weights for the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap. The Cup is a decidedly flattering handicap for the great majority of the field. Fast Passage has been definitely retired, but she has not yet been relieved of her Cup engagement and she is, of course, top weight. With 71b more than she won with last year, it is probably just as well for the others that she did not stand training. In the Melbourne Cup. Fast Passage was asked to concede 111 b to Peter Jackson. At Ellerslie the difference is 81b. Peter Jackson had 8.0 when he won the Moonee Valley Gold Cup, one mile and five furlongs, in October. Admiral Drake won the Auckland Cup of 1931 with 7.8. He was afterwards runner-up in the Sydney Cup with 8.9. He is well in here with S.f, but he has been difficult to train during the last year. Eight of the New Zealand Cup field also eight other horses who were handicapped for the Riccarton event, are engaged in the Auckland Cup, and the weights compare as follows: N.Z. Cup. Auckland.

* Did not start in New Zealand Cup. When Brambletorn won the Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and a half, on the final day at Riccarton, he had 8.0. Shatter was second with 8.1, Rocket fourth with 8.3 and Minerva! fifth with 8.1. Polydora’s impost will cause some surprise here. After she had been allotted 7.13 in the New Zealand Cup, she displayed good winning form, and at Motukarara she was called on to concede lGlb to Minerval and 101 b to Shatter over a mile and a quarter. Polydora did not start, and has not raced since, but the other two have raced unsuccessfully. Shatter in the Auckland Cup concedes lib to Polydora, while Minerval receives 41b from the mare. With Polydora and the Auckland Cup, however, the position at the moment is one in which angels, if such there be on the Turf, would fear to tread. Nightly, winner of the New Zealand Derby and Canterbury Cup, in 7.9 has been allotted exact weight-for-age. Great Star, who, like Polydora, is a candidate best waited on at the moment, is well treated with 31b more than he carried into second place in the 1932 race. Six of the 1932 Auckland Cup field

When Admiral Drake won the Auckland Cup of 1931 with 7.8. the unplaced runners included Jaloux 7.2, Great Star 7.0 and Peter Jackson 7.0 In the 1929 Auckland Cup. Star Stranger was second with 8.12 to Concentrate 7.10. In the 1930 race, Star Stranger 8.13 was unplaced. Royal Artist won the Wellington Cup, one mile and a half, last January with 7.5. Fiji 7.0 was third, and the unplaced runners included Great Star 8.0, Gold Trail 7.13, Jaloux 7.11 (fourth). Red Sun 7.6, Tout le Monde 7.5, and Rocket 7.0. The Big Sprint. Autopav with 9.8 has pride of place in the Railway Handicap. Croupier has lib less, with Ammon Ra on 9.6 and Cadland 9.2. Then there is a drop of 111 bto Inflation. There are some very speedy customers engaged with little on their backs. Half a dozen of the field in the C.J.C. Stewards’ Handicap last month were nominated for the Railway Handicap, and the weights afford the following comoarison:—
