MOTORIST FINED.
Sequel to Fatality at Methven. At a sitting of the Methven Magistrate’s Court before Messrs W. C. Battson, J.P., and J. F. Stone, J.P., Leslie Thomas Fechnev was charged with driving a motor-car without a driving licence and also with permitting a person to ride on the running board of his car contrary to the regulations. Defendant, who was represented by Mr J. W. M. Dart, pleaded guilty. Constable Robertson, who prosecuted, stated that the charges arose out of the circumstances by which a man who was given a lift from the racecourse to Methven on the day of the Methven Trotting Club’s annua] meeting, fell from the running board of the car and was so injured that he died a few days later in Ashburton Hospital. On the first charge defendant was fined £1 and 10s costs and on the second charge he was fined 5s and 10s costs.
