Ashburton Competition. (Special to tne “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, December 3. The Mid-Canterbury Lawn Tennis Sub-association’s intermediate competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday. Te Marae No. 2 defeated Eiffel ton by 11 sets to 5, and Fairton beat Ashburton B by 13 sets to 3. The match between Te Marae No. 1 was not completed owing to inclement weather, and will be concluded on Thursday evening. Details of the play are as follows: TE MARAE v. EIFFELTON. Matches at Timaru.

(Special to the ** Star.”) TIMARU, December 3. The light drizzle which fell early on Saturday afternoon caused teams in the South Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s A grade matches at Maori Park to cease play after about four games in each match had been decided. In the match between Aorangi and Timaru the results of games played are as follow (Aorangi names first): —Men’s singles: N. Satterthwaite lost to G. C. Reid, 4-9. Men’s doubles: Minifte and Mathieson lost to Fea and Cramond. 3-9. Women’s doubles: Miss Eliot and Mrs Lawson lost to Mrs Scott and Miss Gibson, 0-7; Misses Mathieson. and Methven lost to Miss Smythe and Mrs Lewis. 6-7. In the match between Aorangi 11. and St John’s, the latter team was leading by three sets to one. Temuka Club's Tourney. In order to decide positions for opening a tennis ladder, the Temuka Sunshine Tennis Club held a singles tournament at the residence of Mr D. B. Muir. The results were: First round: W. M’lnnes beat Miss .T. Cameron, Miss L. Muir beat Miss E. Shepherd. Miss E. Elston beat Miss V. Woodhead, Miss M. Cameron beat Miss M. Shepherd, Mis Elston beat Miss A. Mills. C. Gliddon heat D. B.
