“DEFYING THE LAW.”
Used Unlicensed Heavy Traffic Vehicle. William M'Clelland Priest was fined £lO and costs in the Traffic Court this morning for using an unlicensed heavy traffic vehicle in November. “ This man has been defying the law,” said the Chief Inspector (Mr H. Macintosh), who added that defendant had been before the Court twice previously for similar offences. Defendant said that he now had the money to pay for the current quarter. He intended to pay for the’ previous quarter later. The Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) ; You know what to expect if you don’t pay for the quarter during which the offence occurred. Defendant reiterated his intention of paving for the current quarter. “ Very well,” said the Magistate “ ten popnds and costs.” Other Cases. In other eases fines were imposed as follows, with costs: Leaving motor-cycles so as to cause obstruction—Dennis Blackwell. John Alfred Brewer and Graham Forbes, as. Passing stationary tram—James ArmNo driver’s license—Clarence Bryant, Speeding—Ronald M. Cook, iOs; Mrs Olive Wardell. 20s. Permitting unlicensed heavy trafficvehicle to be used—Charles Lloyd. £2. Overloading a motor-lorry—Charles M’Cully, 20s. Wrong number plates on car—Len Poore, 20s. No headlights on vehicle—Fred Waters, convicted and discharged. A charge against John Campbell of overloading a taxi was dismissed. On a charge of carrying on a passenger service with no certificate of fitness, he was ordered to pay costs only. A rehearing of two charges against Faithful Charles Meikle was granted. For using an unlicensed heavy traffic vehicle he was convicted and discharged, and for not having an ndorsed certificate of registration was fined 10s without costs.
