RAILWAYS BUSY.

“Farmers’ Purses Have Been Loosened.”

(Special to the “ Star.”) DUNEDIN, December 2.

The Railway Department reports a big increase in goods traffic, particularly in the transportation of manure, lime, cement and coal. Most of the cement is being rushed to Waitaki hydro-electrical works, where efforts are being made to put the remainder of - the -work through with all possible speed. The seasonal increase in the trucking of lime and manure for agricultural purposes is more marked than ever this year, and it is perhaps reasonable to assume that farmers’ purses have been loosened by the prospect of better prices for produce. At the rate wool is coming in, there is certain to be a big offering at the first sale.
