NOTABLE PICTURES

Collection Assembled in Dunedin.

(Special to the "Stax.") DUNEDIN, December 1

A notable collection of over 240 pictures in oils and water by the late James Fraser Scott has been assembled in Dunedin, the gallery having been shipped from the studio at Fulham, London, since the death of the young New Zealand artist.

Included in the gallery are four of the pictures accepted for the Royal Academy. Only one has been shown in Dunedin so far. This is entitled “ A Dying Sculptor's Studio,” which the dying artist signed before he lapsed into the final coma, a victim of the internal trouble superinduced by war service. Several of his pictures are in the Wellington gallery. Mr Scott was art master at the Wellington Technical College for some years, and the suggestion was made some time ago by Mr Clement May that his pictures should be exhibited. The pictures are now at the home of Mr Scott’s brother—he was a Dunedin boy—and they will be exhibited in New Zealand and Australia. They comprise the greatest collection of pictures by a single New Zealand artist ever assembled.
